Hornets’ Malik Monk scored 14 points in 4 minutes (!!) in a close win vs. Bucks

We knew Malik Monk could score, but he had gotten off to a slow start this season — 7.9 points per game on 29 percent shooting through his first seven games. In his eighth, things changed. The Charlotte Hornets beat the Milwaukee Bucks 126-121, and Monk was an enormous part of that.

The 19-year-old rookie scored seven points in the first half … and then the fourth quarter happened, when he dropped 18 more. From 11:29 to 7:30, he scored 14 points alone.

Here’s his first jumper after subbing back into the game.

And here’s the driving layup he scored to end his four-minute flurry.

You can see his full scoring flurry in the video at the top of the post.

Monk did most of his damage in a tight fourth quarter — the two teams were tied at 88 when the frame began. Without his scoring explosion, the Hornets probably don’t beat Milwaukee, which saw Khris Middleton drop 43 points himself. Monk will likely be streaky all season, but hopefully the explosion means that he’s beginning to find himself in the NBA game. Charlotte would certainly welcome that with open arms, anyway.
