WATCH LIVE: Lighthouse camera captures Hurricane Florence’s approach from 34 miles off NC coast

A camera set up on Frying Pan Tower is capturing the approach of Hurricane Florence as the storm barrels toward North Carolina.

The 80-foot lighthouse was built in the 1960s about 34 miles off the coast to warn ships of the shoals at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean.

The tower has been decommissioned by the U.S. Coast Guard and now serves as a bed and breakfast.

An ocean camera livestreams conditions on the tower, and is now capturing dramatic footage of the storm’s approach.
