Ingredients
For the fillings: (yield 18 balls)
100g peeled split mung beans (1/2 cup)
120ml water (1/2 cup)
4 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp vegetable oil
pinch of salt
1 tsp vanilla extract / 1 pack vanilla sugar 9g
For the dough: (yield: 9 cakes)
125g tapioca starch ( 1 cup)
240ml water (1 cup)
1 tbsp mung bean starch
1 tbsp water
4 tbsp sugar
1 tsp vegetable oil
20g shredded young coconut (1/4 cup)
Optional:
a few drops food coloring
roasted sesame seeds

  1. Hi Helen! I love your recipes and I have a question about these cute wedding cakes. If I would like to cook the paste on the stove, how long should I cook it for (with stirring or whisking of course) and on what temperature (low, medium or high)? Because I saw in one video you can do it in the saucepan on the stove, but it was in vietnamese and I don’t speak the language.

      you stir on medium high and when it feels heavy, turn to low. Stir until it is thick and translucent, like glue

  3. Cho e hỏi xíu ạ! Ở bước cho bột vào lò vi sóng quậy tới nửa sống nửa chín mà e k có lò vi sóng thì hấp đc k ạ? Nếu đc thì hấp khoảng bao nhiêu lâu mỗi lần? E cảm ơn

  15. When I ate it in Vietnam, I noticed that the outer layer had a bit of lye flavour, like how the Chinese add lye to the alkaline dumplings. I love this cake by the way. Time to try making some.
