  3. My husband is Vietnamese and this is one of our favorite dishes…I am always looking for recipes I can duplicate at home for him. We live in San Diego and drive an hour north to Santa Ana (Viet food Mecca of Southern California…lol) when we want to buy extra to bring home. I just followed your recipe and made this today and it came out perfectly! As a side note, I added 2 tsp. of mushroom seasoning, fresh minced garlic (vs. pre-minced in jar) and used 3 egg yolks for topping…it was beautiful and delicious! Thank you so much for sharing this easy, yummy, no-steamer-required version.

    • Hi Alana, I am so glad to hear you and your husband enjoyed this dish. Your additions to the recipe are just wonderful. I live in San Diego too and very familiar with the drive to Santa Ana. • I did! And it was declicious!!! Oh my gosh! Even my 8 year old loved it! So excited to be able to learn how to cook Vietnamese food! I’ve also made Casava cake, Banh Cuon and moon cake based on your videos. So tiring at first, but so worth it! Your Casava cake recipe didn’t last through the night. It was gone in 4 hours between mom and three kids. Dad loved it too!

    • My pleasure Linh! Hope you try the recipe. 🙂

  9. Another childhood favorite that I haven’t had in a long time! Can I try chicken or turkey because I don’t eat pork or red meat anymore? My mom used a steamer instead bug it still comes out the same I see! Thanks for sharing😊

    • Ground chicken or turkey is really good. (I use these meats for my non-red meat eating friends.) The traditional method is to steam and it works great! Enjoy!
